Happy Friday! It’s time for some little things from this week. My hope is that these posts spark a little something with you, give you an idea or solve a problem for you too.  It might be a quote, a print, what I’m reading, a favorite podcast, a playlist, a recipe, a helpful tip, a cleaning product, or something I added to our home. Basically if it’s something little that I feel is shareable or if it’s something I’d bring up to a friend over coffee or on the phone, I’m probably going to share it with you here. Here’s a link to all of the posts in this series.

My first thing to share with you today is just pure fun. I love marking the start of December with an Advent Calendar. While we we still have our traditional one that is for the kids, I ordered this one for all of us. Bonus: those little jars are my favorite! If you have your eye on it, be sure to order early as I hear they sell out.

With the changing of the seasons comes the cooler weather here in the Midwest. Family Handyman has some great suggestions about what to do as the temperatures drop. I loved the tip for using a spatula to clean gutters – clever!

This butternut squash soup recipe from Damn Delicious is going on the menu this weekend. Check out the description: “Loaded with sweet butternut squash, caramelized onions, carrots, celery, Granny Smith apple, garlic, sage and thyme – all topped with crisp bacon bits.” I am sold. Even better is that you can put it all in the instant pot although I bet you could utilize the slow cooker or stove top too.

I am asked all the time about our espresso machine and whether we like like. The answer is YES, we absolutely love it. I would go out and buy another one in a heartbeat if something happened to ours. Check it out here.

Guess what’s coming to the shop this Monday, October 19th?  The FALL COLLECTION!  Stay tuned – I can’t wait to share all the new products with you!

Did you see that my new book is available for preorder? Clean Mama’s Guide to a Peaceful Home was a labor of love and so appropriate in hindsight with the current times. I walk you through each room of my house, sharing the systems and rituals I use and while recommending others for different seasons of life.

I really enjoy Emily P. Freeman and her podcast The Next Right Thing. She recently shared her fall playlist and it is the perfect blend of music to inspire all the fall feelings.

We have a great apple orchard close to us here in the Midwest. I have been loving utilizing our Instant Pot as the weather is cooling and came upon this gem of a recipe for applesauce. I love that it has no added sugar and literally couldn’t be easier to make.

Besides her food photos being some of the best that I have seen, Tiegan from Half Baked Harvest rounded up some of her favorite fall recipes from her blog. I own her latest cookbook Half Baked Harvest Super Simple and love her creative and flavorful recipes. I am looking forward to making the Instant Pot Pesto Zuppa Toscana and Broccoli Cheddar Chicken and Rice Casserole.

I have been a fan of Myquillyn Smith and her blog The Nester, for years. I love her style and her centered approach to decorating and homemaking. Her new book Welcome Home focuses on decorating your home for the seasons with a less-is-more mentality. I highly recommend this one!

I’m hoping to squeeze in a quick batch of vanilla extract today. Have you tried it? It’s ridiculously easy and so delicious. I make a big batch and gift it – if you make some soon it’ll be ready for holiday gift giving. You can see how I make it here.

HOMEKEEPING PLANNER UPDATE:
Lots of questions regarding the new Homekeeping Planners coming out this fall – here’s the update:

The Homekeeping Planner is undated – you can start ANYTIME!  There are still mid-year Homekeeping Planners in the shop – some have the tabs behind the months – these have been marked way down to $38.99 because of this. The *NEW* 2021/2022 Homekeeping Planners will be coming out in October. The main difference in the two planners is that the week is on 2 pages in the new Homekeeping Planners vs. 1 page in the current planners AND there are 2 cover designs.  I’ll have all the important dates and sneak peeks and the pre-order and launch dates for you next week. Yay! There are oodles of new paper products coming this fall that I cannot wait to share with you!

I’ll be honest. I am an absolute sucker for apple desserts. Apple pie, apple crisp, apple squares- they are all favorites in our kitchen. This is a new one you need to add to your fall baking list. The buttery shortbread bottom topped with the familiar crumb topping is just different enough to be a new favorite. PS- can I suggest that you treat yourself to an apple peeler if you don’t already have one? They are worth their weight in gold.

The upcoming school year and what it may look like for you and your family may be unknown, vastly different than last year and just plain overwhelming. I wrote this post to offer some tips and organizational help no matter how your school year may look.

I shared a caddy in the Back to School During a Pandemic post (above) that we use for organizing school and homework supplies and it’s a seasonal item from Target that can be hard to find, but I found these darling caddies from mDesign on Amazon and thought you might be interested.
